funeral karl vondal

Event duration: 03.06.2024

On Friday, May 10, 2024, Karl Vondal passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71, his hands, face and clothes still covered in paint.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, at 13:45, we will say goodbye to Karli Vondal in the parish church of Kierling, where we will accompany him to his final resting place.

Karl Vondal was born on April 6, 1953 as the youngest child in a large family. After breaking off his apprenticeship as a bricklayer, he worked as an unskilled laborer from the age of 18 to 19. At this time, he became mentally ill and entered the "Lower Austrian Mental Health and Care Facility at Gugging" for the first time. A subsequent illness led to a permanent psychiatric stay, during which he spent most of his time in Gugging.

Since 2002, the passionate artist has lived and worked permanently at the house of artists. He mainly created large-format collage-like works on paper, which he worked on with pencil, colored pencils, ink and acrylic paints. Here he mainly dealt with themes relating to love and sexuality. He also enjoyed being photographed with his art by visitors.

Vondal's works have already been shown in numerous exhibitions and his works are represented in the collection of the Museum of Everything, England and the Treger Saint Silvestre Collection, Portugal, among others.

You will have the opportunity to see his works from September to March in the exhibition "fantastic places.! walla | strobl | vondal | fink" at museum gugging.

We hope that Karl Vondal will live on through his works.
